Fashion Show

Thanks to Kanu Hawaii, Divas Doing Good, and the Wedding Cafe for putting on a great event (Green is the new Black)! We were treated to great food and an awesome fashion show. Here's a small teaser of the fashion show last night featuring Allison Izu's (fashion designer) line.

NAB in Las Vegas

Wow, we had an exciting and fun filled month of April. We had our monthly National Association of Caters (NACE) and Oahu Wedding Association (OWA) meeting. Jody and I also celebrated our 4 year anniversary. Boy, did 4 years go by fast. We always celebrate our anniversary at our favorite place “Las Vegas” or “Lost Wages” according to some people. We took the plunge in Vegas, so it also has some sentimental value to us. Since our anniversary was the same time as the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention, we decided to check it out.

It was overwhelming!! It was like a techie’s dream come true, and it encompassed everything that you could imagine. The main focus was HD, since it will become the standard very soon. Jody and I couldn’t believe how big this convention was, we had to put on our good walking shoes!! We learned a lot about HD and the various types of cameras and formats that are out there. We had a blast, and although I wanted to buy everything, my wife made sure I didn’t buy everything under the sun. Here is a link to a video clip that I threw together of our trip. I didn’t film much in the convention, but we did take some pictures.

Our OWA meeting this month was held at Rum Fire at the Sheraton Waikiki. It was outside right along the beach while the sun was setting. It was a sight to see!! A bonus to our OWA meeting was seeing a movie being made right next to us. They were filming inside the restaurant with Heather Locklear. We had a brief glimpse of her through a window, but that was about it. It was cool seeing all the film props and equipment though. I think I was more excited over their video equipment than seeing a star.

March Madness

Hey everyone, just a quick recap of our very own March madness. We had a month filled with fun filled meetings, social gatherings, and of course weddings.    I attended the National Association of Caters Executives (NACE) meeting, just became a member of the Oahu Wedding Association meeting, and a whole bunch of slideshows and highlights to fill our calendar for the month of March.

The NACE meeting this past month was held at Luana Hill”s. It is located in Olomana on a golf course in the beautiful windward side. It is currently under new management, which turns out to be the Willow’s.  Yes, the Willow’s which is the famous restaurant located in town (known for their great food and awesome atmosphere) is also managing the food and beverage side of Luana Hill’s. The food was excellent, especially the curry which can also be found at the restaurant in town.  If you’re looking for a great buffet, check out Luana Hill’s and their Sunday brunches.  It’s a great place to take your family to for special occasions or if you just want to soak up the awesome atmosphere and great food.

Our OWA meeting was held at the most famous Wedding Café in Manoa. The Wedding Café is a great resource place for planning your wedding and of course munching on their great food. They have a ton of wedding vendors displaying their services (including myself), ranging from flowers, photographers, invitations, officiants, and of course videographers.  They also have great sandwiches and beverages at both locations, including the Ward Warehouse. The guys can munch on a pastrami sandwich, while the girls can enjoy some pineapple ice tea while researching some vendors.  They just introduced their acai bowls, which is awesome.  It not only tastes great, but is healthy for you too.  Also, the Wedding Cafe have decided to “go green”, which means they are serving all their food on recyclables.    They’re not only serving healthy items, but they’re saving the planet also.

We recently did a wedding for a great couple: Jared and Lara Higashi.  Their ceremony was held at the bride’s church in Kailua, and the reception was held at the Hilton Prince Kuhio.  Here’s the highlights that we did for them that day.  We had an awesome time capturing their special day.  I was with them from morning to night, along with Visionari, (who was their photographers) who captured some awesome pictures of them.  We both worked very hard to make sure the day went by smooth and perfect.

Video Showcase at the Wedding Cafe

Wow, we just finished one of The Wedding Café’s fabulous Wednesday night workshops. We showcased our videography along with 6 other videographers. The café was packed with couples, who filled the room with excitement. They came prepared with questions and a curiosity about videography. I was a little nervous making my presentation, since I am usually the one behind the camera trying to be inconspicuous. Although I need to brush up on my public speaking, I think I did alright. I am meeting a lot of couples from that night, and I had the chance of meeting a lot of great people. Here is the demo video that we showcased that night.

Kristine and Nelson

This was our first time shooting at the Ocean Crystal Chapel located in the Hilton Hawaiian Village. The staff there was awesome and really fun to work with. We also had a great time working with photographer David Murphey.

Lianna and Trung

Lianna and Trung met in college on the mainland. Thier ceremony and reception was held here at the Kahala Hotel. The beautiful flowers were arranged by Floral Inspirations. They created a pathway lined with flowers on the sides for the bridal party to walk through. It was great that the weather held up until the last second. Right when the wedding ended, the rain just fell. But being that this is Hawaii, it only lasted for about 30 seconds. As always, working with Mark and Takako of Mark Nomura Photography has been enjoyable. And the day went smoothly thanks to Kelly Sugano and her crew from A Perfect Day.

The highlight will be up soon, so please check back.

The Bus Shaker

We used to work with Brian back in the days installing GPS systems for the Bus company. We all had nicknames for each other and Brian's nickname just so happen to be The Bus Shaker. Whenever he used to get on the Bus he pulled so hard on the rails, that the bus shook back and forth.

Nina and Brent

Nina and Brent live in Seattle and decided to get married in Hawaii where Brent grew up. This clip is a little longer (8 minutes) because there are some highlights of the reception. Ceremony and Reception was held at the Halekulani. Mark Nomura of Mark Nomura Photography did a wonderful job with the photographs. I believe that Mark also referred Nina and Brent to us. Thanks Mark!

Wedding Expo Day 3

Finally. Wedding Expo's are fun, but they are so tiring. One of the DJ's (Versatile Sound) hooked up a sattellite feed to their booth to catch the football games. We found ourselves sneaking off every so often to take a look at the score.

Wedding Expo Day 2

If you happen to walk by our booth and not see us there, can you please press play on the DVD player? For some reason after doing these expo's for the past four or five years, we find ourselves walking around a lot. And for some reason this year, our DVD player just won't let us repeat the DVD. And since our demo is only 10 minutes long, that's only 10 minutes of quality walking. By the time we reach half way to where we are going, we have to go back and press play!

Check out our friends Ben and Christine at the Flaunt Booth. Check out the live action on stage at their booth.

Wedding Expo Day 1

The day finally came and excited as we were (who isn't excited about wedding expos?) we knew that we were going to have a long day putting the green monster wall up. Everything started okay, until we started screwing in the TV to the back panel. Somehow we managed to strip the hole by using larger screws, but was luckily able to make it work using only 3 screws. So hopefully the TV will still be on and not on the floor when we get back there tomorrow morning!

Chinese Wedding Games

If you haven't been to a chinese wedding and tea ceremony, check this out. Special thanks to Susan O'Donnell and the crew of Aloha Wedding Planners, Alex and Sandy of Alex Chong Photography (he shot my wedding also) and DJ Fudge and his crew. It's great when the whole reception program is in chinese and only I and Alex can understand what they are saying.

Hawaii Bridal Expo

Don't forget to check us out at the Hawaii Bridal Expo this weekend.

Booth 101

Every expo time, it seems that our booth grows along side with us. From a single chair and table setup, to our current green monster. You can't see it, but the wall is green. Green means good luck, so hopefully we'll have extra good luck this year...Or is that only on St. Patricks day?

Who doesn't like to go to the dentist?

Dentists aren't exactly my favorite people in the world. Nothing personal, but everytime I hear that drilling noise, I get the chills. But this time it was different. This time we were hired to do a group photo for their upcoming magazine ad. Dr. Clyde Uchida and his staff help children maintain good oral hygiene. You can find them at the Pearlridge Office Center (808-484 4459) or at the Kahala Mall (808-7390878)

Okinawan Trip

Traveling to different countries can be such a learning experience. We had the privilege to hang out and document a trip to Okinawa. We got to hang out with the Hawaii cast from "Pigs from the Sea" and also attend the 4th Worlwide Uchinachu Festival. A festival celebrating the return home of Okinawans that live outside of the country. Click here to view the slideshow.

Downtown photoshoot

Kathy is actually a friend of ours. When she told us that she didn't have a bridal shoot for her wedding a couple of years ago, we quickly offered to spend a day with her. The location we chose was downtown Honolulu. Since everyone seems so fascinated about the beaches here in Hawaii, we really wanted to show people the "other side" of Hawaii. What better place than downtown Honolulu! Click Here to check out the slideshow.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2007!

Just wanted to wish everyone a happy and successful new year. We're really excited about this year and we're looking forward working with all of clients.

Lerma and Russell

Lerma and Russell flew in from San Jose to have their wedding here in Hawaii. They are both from here, but currently work in California. Part of their video package included a skit that they wanted to do. It was loosely based on the "Friends" show. It was a blast shooting the skit. Russell is such a funny guy and they both were up to anything we threw at them.

June and Eric

June and Eric. This wedding was one of the most memorable weddings that we have done. The guys at Reve Photography (Brad, Frank and Shawn) are always fun to work with. Eric seemed nervous at first, but had no troubles reading his personalized vow to June. They had a sand ceremony where each of them poured a glass full of colored sand into a larger container. June's father serenaded the couple by singing the Hawaiian Wedding Song by Elvis Presley. It turns out that June's father has really powerful friends.

Christine and Tyler

The wedding was held at the Marriott Waikiki in the courtyard. It is always fun working with Mark Nomura of Mark Nomura Photography. During the reception, Tyler's best man was talking about how Tyler was deathly afraid of roaches. We also got to work with Tony So of TheDJ. He was very cool and even provided us with a blank DVD when we needed it.

21 Magazine Brooke Burke swimwear

I was going through some our old footage and came across this. A few years back we were asked to shoot a fashion show of the Brooke Burke swimwear line hosted by 21 Magazine. Helen Berger (former Mrs. Hawaii) was the host for our show.

Lynne and Kevin

< >
Kevin and Lynne had their wedding at the Hyatt Regency in Waikiki. Kevin and Lynne met while working together at the Honolulu Zoo. Kevin and Lynne had a releasing of butterflies ceremony where they each released a box of butterflies. Although it was very cool, it was sad that some of the butterflies just fell to the ground. Garrett Nose was the photographer for this event.

Roman and Vicky

Roman and Vicky are having a destination wedding on the Big Island of Hawaii. They were in town planning the wedding and decided to have us come out there and shoot some engagement photos for them. After a brief meeting with the both of them about their wedding, we turned them loose and got some amazing pictures. Click here to see their slideshow.

Reception Timelines

Creating a reception timeline is a must for every wedding. Although timelines vary, they all seem to follow each other. Spend the time on creating a detailed timeline. This will not only benefit you, but also all of your vendors. Photographers and Videographers will know exactly what is going on and will be able to set up accordingly. Here is a typical order of events:

-Greeting line (greeting of guests entering)
-Bridal party entrance
-Bride and Groom entrance
-Emcee speech on Housekeeping items
-Invocation
-Dinner /Lunch
-Introduction of family
-Introduction of out of town guests / sponsors
-Introduction of bridal party
-Introduction of Bride and Groom
-Best man and Maid of Honor speech/ toast
-Slideshow
-Cake cutting
-Bouquet toss
-Garter Toss
-Bride and Groom Thank you speech
-Father Daughter dance / Mother Son dance
-Bride and Groom first dance
-Bride and Groom money dance

Of course this is only a generic timelime and you may add in whatever that you want. Entertainment such as the Brides Hula Dance for her new Husband, Banzai and Mabuhay Toasts, Lion dance, bands etc. can all fit into the timeline.

One thing the we strongly suggest to our couples is to do the thank you speech before the first dance. It seems that when the lights go down, people like to sneak away. If you do your thank you speech after the first dance, half the people that you are thanking will be on their way home!
